Owen Hargreaves and John O'Shea are in contention to boost Manchester United following Wayne Rooney's injury for the top-of-the-table clash with Chelsea.
Hargreaves has been out of action for nearly 18 months following major surgery on both knees, whilst O'Shea has not played a game since suffering complications in his recovery from a dead leg sustained in the Republic of Ireland's World Cup play-off defeat to France in November.
Rooney's ankle injury will keep him out for two to three weeks so £30.75million frontman Dimitar Berbatov is set to lead the United forward line with the backing of Sir Alex Ferguson.
"I haven't liked leaving Dimitar out - and now he is in,'' said the United boss.
"Having one striker has been quite successful for us away from home in Europe in particular.
"It suited the pattern of our game away from home.
"But it is not easy leaving out a good player like that because he can make something happen in the last third.
"We just have to decide the best formation.''
Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has recovered from a training knock and will spearhead their attack at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Drogba sat out last weekend's 7-1 victory over Aston Villa and missed two training sessions after collecting a minor leg injury.
Michael Essien (knee), Ashley Cole (ankle), Ricardo Carvalho (ankle) and Jose Bosingwa (knee) are all sidelined along with Branislav Ivanovic (knee).
"We want to play our football and we want to keep control of the game but it will be difficult,'' said Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti.
"Manchester United want to do the same, they play at home and they will want to keep control of the game. This is the fight we will face.
"United don't give a lot of chances to the opponents to score. They are very compact and able to counter-attack.
"I have played against Manchester United a lot of times in the past so I know Sir Alex Ferguson's team very well.
"He is a very good coach. Also this year they had a lot problems, they were without Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand at the start of the season but they maintained their style of play. They have a very clear identity and Sir Alex has done a great job, everybody knows this.''
